I did a review of the Versa shifter after using it this summer. It works very well. My only issue is with the relatively large gear steps on the internal hub. This is a legitimate compromise on to get a decent gear range in 8 speeds, but it would give me pause for touring and long rides where I want to get in that just right gear for long mile cruising.

and now Versa has the STI shifter for 11-speed alfine too!
