Fichtel & Sachs (F&S) Torpedo DUOMATIC
20 pcs Sachs – hub, Typ R 2110 DUOMATIC (”R” stands for “Rücktritt” / Kick-Back) shipping date August 1990.
You cannot believe what a great flavour touches my nose opening the box. It´s the resined grease which smells like history!
The hubs are packed in two levels (each level 10 pcs)
The DUOMATIC hubs are fixed by two locknuts. This is different compared to older versions. Older Torpedo hubs have two F&S nuts. See pictures below!
The number 36 describes the amount of spoke holes.
New 36 hole DUOMATIC hub with a original F&S 19 teeth dished sprocket, two nuts, spacer ring (to optimize the chainline), snap ring and protection cap.

I am very jealous. How I would love to have one of those. I am in the process of lacing a F&S 515 3spd Coasterbrake to a modern rim. I am amazed at the quality of the F&S hubs.

great find! I’ve just bought a new Duomatic to replace my Sturmey Archer 3 speed.
Looking forward to getting rid of 2 cables.

The hubs are on sale!
If you are interested in a Torpedo DUOMATIC hub please contact me:
pizzaman_karlsruhe@gmxdotde
The price for one hub is 100,- Euro.
A hub includes a new 36 hole DUOMATIC hub with a original F&S 19 teeth dished sprocket, two nuts, spacer ring (to optimize the chainline), snap ring and a protection cap. See picture for all the mentioned parts.
http://www.hubstripping.com/pics/duo-treasure8.JPG
The hubs are NOS (New Old Stock) details are mentioned here.
Attention:
The grease in the hub is resinified over these years. Before you use one of these hub you have to dismantle it and clean the hub from the old grease. For a experienced person this takes around one hour. This is also a job your local bicycle dealer can do! You need no special tools and it´s a simple build up hub. So you can also try it without any experience. This will take you estimated four hours and a great experience to come in contact with YOUR DUOMATIC!
I also offer this service if desired!
If you´ll not clean the hub it will soon be damaged because the old grease cannot fulfill the lubrication function anymore.
I´ll ship the hub worldwide! I suggest to use http://www.DHL.com for the shipment.
Here are two shipment regions mentioned the US and Europe.
There are two rates:
DHL Paeckchen (no tracking, no insurance):
To the USA = 18,- $
To EUROPE = 8,60 EURO
http://www.dhl.de/dhl?tab=1&skin=hi&check=yes&lang=de_EN&xmlFile=3001058
DHL Packet (tracking, insurance up to 5 kg 74,08 EURO):
To the USA = 45,- $
To EUROPE = 17,- EURO
http://www.dhl.de/dhl?tab=1&skin=hi&check=yes&lang=de_EN&xmlFile=3001057
I have to fill out some customs informations when sending the hubs to the US.
http://www.deutschepost.de/dpag%3Ftab%3D1%26skin%3Dhi%26check%3Dyes%26lang%3Dde_EN%26xmlFile%3Dlink1017454_1014256
The form is only available in German & French. Great!!!

My suggestion is to declare the hub as a present and a value of under 100,- $ e.g. 40,- $. My information is that a US citizen can receive present under a value of 100,- $ per day for free. This means you don´t have to pay customs. I have no shipment experience to oversea so suggestions are welcome.
Finally we´ll find the best and cheapest way to ship the hub to your location.
Gruß,
Marco

I’m looking for the 10,5 axle nuts for the older version hub. Let me know if you have any for sale or where I might find them. I have been told by the local fastener shop that they do not exist, which was strange because I was holding the wheel to which they would belong in front of me.

I found a link where you can buy the nuts:

My bike has a knackered shimano nexus 7 speed. I am having trouble, for all the tea in china, finding a replacement for this. I am not familiar with the intricacies of this specialised world but would one of these fit? Have you any left? I don’t mind 3 or 5 speed anything would be better than the single 2nd or 3rd gear I’m left with!
Many thanks.

Hello folks. I am thinking of moving from a single speed hub to an eight speed internal. Does anyone have any opinions about the Shimano Nexus versus the Sturmey Archer 8 speed internal?
Thanks,
John

Hi.
Do you still have these hubs for 36 spoke rims?
Wil they fit on fat tire beach bikes or cruising bikes?
How much cost?
Thank you.

Mike,
the hubs are still available (100,- Euro per hub).

Hello,
Do you still have the Duomatics available? I’d love to get one. I have several Bendix kickback hubs that I love (Blue band is my favorite even though Red band has the best brakes). Does the Duomatic use an indexing spring like the Bendixes?
Anyway, let me know if they’re still available.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello, Christopher Robin from OldRoads.com here, This site is awesome and I will pass the word and tell everybody about this awesome site. Best of luck and I am at your service!
i remember finding all those small, awesome and cute little red dri-gange 3 speed shifters with the little springs in drawers in Detroit’s oldest bicycle shop on 6 mile and Livernois before the fire. It was the triggers that called me…. lured and seduced me into collecting Fichtel and Sachs stuff like a madman!
I loved reading about your find of all the n.o.s. vintage Sachs Hubs! I tip my hat to you all.
I am really excited and will contribute and aid this group will much effort and dedication!

Good day there,
I am interested in the Duomatic hub for a project. Do you have any left?
I really like the site, it has increased my appreciation of these styles of hubs. How about a report on the Bendix two speed kick back hub sometime?
